Macomb County, Michigan Teacher Wins National Recognition
October 17, 2007 by Ralph Roberts commentWe want to join Macomb County, Michigan residents in congratulating Chippewa Valley School District educator Brent Vasicek. The fourth grade teacher at Miami Elementary School was recently awarded the prestigious American Stars of Teaching Award for the State of Michigan for 2007. Vasicek joined the Miami Elementary teaching staff in Clinton Township, Michigan just four years ago.
Chosen from a field of 4,000 candidates nationwide, Vasicek, 34, was recognized for improving student achievement, increasing student opportunities and using innovative strategies as a teacher. A highly imaginative and creative teacher, he has truly made a positive difference in the lives of Macomb County students. Amidst the thrilled shrieks and enthusiastic applause of students, parents and colleagues, Vasicek received his award at a school assembly on September 18.
"He's an inspiration," said fellow teacher Melanie Kress who nominated Vasicek, 34, for the award. "He's a positive source of energy for everyone he encounters. He's just amazing."
The American Stars of Teaching Award program honors only one educator in each state and the District of Columbia each year. Nominations are accepted from principals, students, parents, colleagues and community leaders. Honorees are selected by a U.S. Department of Education committee composed of former and current classroom teachers.
In Macomb County, Michigan we are privileged to have Brent Vasicek among our many excellent educators. Teachers like Mr. Vasicek are what make our Macomb County schools among the best in the state.
