Consider Adopting a Pet
March 3, 2008 by Ralph Roberts commentAll across the country the foreclosure crisis has hit really hard. First and foremost, it has put many families living situations in jeopardy. This has had a ripple effect on all aspects of the economy. One effect is an increasing number of displaced pets. This is one of those things that is easy to overlook.
If people cannot keep their homes, then they certainly are going to have a hard time with the upkeep of the family pet. Animal shelters that were probably already overburdened, are now facing even more crowded conditions. No doubt it is heartbreaking to have to give up a cherished pet in the face of financial difficulty. But this is much better than the alternative: neglecting the pet because the family is stressed out.
If you are fortunate enough to be able to give a little extra, consider adopting a pet from a local shelter. Whatever the reason those animals are there, welcoming an animal into your home is a great opportunity.
The Macomb County Animal Shelter provides shelter for pets and facilitates pet adoptions. They also have a pet lost and found, in case you are not seeking a new pet, but looking for the one you used to have.
