Empty Bowls Fundraiser
February 22, 2008 by Ralph Roberts commentIt is amazing how people find ways to combine charity and creativity. Not that we are less willing to give when simply asked for money, the experience is just that much richer when people find ways to include artistry in giving and make it into a community event.
On February 23, 2008, from 11am-2pm, Pewabic Pottery will hold its Empty Bowls Fundraiser to benefit the Gleaners Food Bank. Beautifully crafted bowls will be on sale for $5-$20. The proceeds from those sales will help feed hungry Michigan families. At the same time, you can fill your newly-purchased bowl with delicious soup from five local restaurants (Beverly Hills Grill, Lunchtime Global, Pronto, Zoup! and Sindbads). There will also be bread and water available as well.
Bowls for sale are being donated by the Pewabic staff, students, area artists and participants in a children’s workshop and guests are asked to buy no more than two bowls each.
Pewabic Pottey is a nonprofit that was founded by Mary Chase Stratton in 1903.
